Time to turn up the heat, as the weather is changing.  Winter has taken a while to show up for us here in the Denver/Boulder area, but it seems to have finally arrived.  That also means that your energy bill will be higher.  Here are a few common-sense suggestions to help keep the bill from going through the roof: 

*Turn your thermostat down five to ten degrees at night and cuddle up under that down comforter.

*Close the heating vents, or turn off the baseboard heat in rooms you’re not using.

*Wait until your dishwasher is completely full to use it, and hand wash when there are only a few items.

*Keep the window shades closed at night and on especially cold days.

*Wash your clothes in cold water.

*Think about turning your water heater temperature down a few degrees.

*Check any areas of your house that may be leaking energy.
