Whittier
Next to downtown Boulder, though much quieter and seemingly worlds away from the pace of downtown, is the neighborhood of Whittier. Another of Boulder's first neighborhoods, Whittier has a quiet, stoic charm, massive trees and incredibly beautiful homes.

Picket Fence Charm
Properties in this area are well taken care of and much-loved by their owners, and these large, brightly painted homes compliment the traffic-less streets nicely. The fascinating architectural details in this area set it apart from newer Boulder neighborhoods; with slanted rooftops, curved windows, stone facades, arched shingles and contrasting trim colors. Another make-you-feel-happy element of Whittier is the huge amount of white picket fences and sunflower gardens - it's just plain cute.
Whittier echoes expense and luxury in a very down-to-earth manner. The neighborhood's opulence is reflected in its character and spotlessness, not in a golf-course-in-my-backyard, I-don't-know-my-neighbor sort of way. It feels like a close, family neighborhood where your kids could actually play in the street.
The Pearl Street Mall and an amazing array of shopping and dining options are just minutes on foot from Whittier, but this neighborhood does have a few hot spots of its' own. The Unpainted Furniture Store has been around for decades, drawing customers from all over the Front Range with its quality, rustic pieces. Mataam Fez, another long-time Boulder business, transports you to Morocco for an authentic evening of dining and belly-dancing entertainment. The fashion-forward Besos brings chic L.A clothes to Boulder locals in a modern environment. Snarfs, the best sandwich shack in Boulder, also makes its home in Whittier.
Visit Whittier and you will feel the warmth and charm of this cozy, downtown neighborhood. It's next door to everything you need in Boulder, but maintains itself as a very distinctive place to live.
