Lowry

Lowry, once a working Air Force base in Denver, is a forward-thinking, mixed-use community. The idea behind transforming the Air Force base into a community was to take an existing urban area, give it new life and avoid adding to the problem of urban sprawl. Lowry is a modern neighborhood with its own culture and community, yet is only minutes from downtown Denver.

Bricks, Bombers and Boutiques

Living in Lowry is for those desiring a new home with close proximity to the city (basically unheard of in most areas). Brick is everywhere in Lowry, combined nicely with steel and glass to incorporate traditional Denver architecture into a more modern time. The most unique element of Lowry is that historic airplane hangers and once-student-dormitories dot the landscape, reflecting what used to be. In Lowry, you'll find a diverse array of housing options for any budget and taste. Beautiful, large town homes with well landscaped yards sit back from the quiet road. Massive, stucco mansions line other streets, with big trees and romantic balconies commanding attention. Elegant single family homes (some with a history as military officer housing) make up most of the Lowry area.

Parks and open space are central to Lowry's design and appeal - most with impressive Front Range views. 800 acres of park space are interspersed between residential areas, with mature transplanted trees (rare in a new community), colorful flowers, picnic tables and excellent playground facilities. An 18-hole golf course, indoor ice skating and hockey rink, soccer fields and community pool round out this activity-lovers paradise.

The goal of Lowry's developers was to create a self-sustained community. A place where, if desired, you could live without ever leaving - and these developers succeeded. Shopping and dining are abundant in this area. Lowry's Town Center offers a pedestrian-friendly, open air shopping experience, where quaint local shops mix nicely with larger, necessity based stores. Stop by Pedal Pushers Cyclery to buy or rent the bike you need for enjoying Colorado's great outdoors. Visit the uber-chic Studio Bini for the best in trendy-baby fashion. Enjoy your mornings with coffee and pastries on Urban Harvest Café's relaxing outdoor patio. Wind down your day with a fabulously strong margarita and good conversation at Salty Rita's.

Culture also abounds at Lowry. Public art from professional sculptors and designers is on display throughout the area. The John Hand Theater, Lowry's own community theater, offers professional theater close to home. Eisenhower Chapel, once the church where President Eisenhower worshiped, is now used for performances, lecture series' and art exhibits. The Air and Space Museum displays historic aircrafts and hosts a fabulous children program.

For modern yet historic housing options, fabulous shopping and a relaxed, peaceful lifestyle, Lowry is a great choice. What makes this community really standout is the history it has embraced and built a neighborhood around, and the fact that Denver is just a stones throw away.
